Professor Shafi Ahmed
Professor Shafi Ahmed, is a multi-award winning cancer surgeon working at the Royal London Hospital. His surgeries, performed through Google Glass and virtual reality, were shown live on social media and TV channels, for which he received a BAFTA Award nomination in 2019.
Shafi Ahmed is also on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, Imperial College, Barts Medical School, Queen Mary University, and Bradford University, where he lectures on “Innovation and Digital Transformation.” Professor Shafi Ahmed is one of the 20 most important people in the world in digital health and innovation. More than 400 newspapers, journals, and TV news channels have carried various reports on him, including the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, CNBC, Forbes, Guardian, The Times, etc.
Kunal Bose
Kunal is a 360 entrepreneur in exponential & digital technologies for resource limited healthcare settings in the global health context. His focus is artificial intelligence & molecular diagnostics (lab-on-chip) for decentralized diagnostics, mHealth platforms and Industry 4.0 healthcare infrastructure.
Kunal chaired the session on AI & digital radiology hardware for automated and mass CXR screening at THe Lung Union conference, The Hague, 2018 and been a panelist at McGill TB summer course, NIRT/ICMR workshops, Union conferences in Cape Town (2015), Liverpool (2016). He was a part of Qure.ai core team during the launch of their Lung AI CAD at The Lung Union conference in Guadalajara, 2017. In 2012, Kunal co-founded Advenio (now ChironX) – an early leader in developing deep learning AI tools for medical imaging modalities such as chest x-rays, fundus & ultrasonography with funding from BMGF, The Unreasonable group amongst others.
She is the Founder and Managing Director of Organikare Limited, a personal health, hygiene, and wellness product manufacturing brand. Her columns in the daily Dhaka and Bangla Tribune on topical health issues are widely circulated. As a science communicator, she has the ability to break down the scientific terms into simple, understandable language for the readers. In a career spanning 20 years, she has worked in corporate business houses, the healthcare sector, and the development sector. Her continuous learning approach to life is reflected in her educational qualifications and professional trajectory. After completing her MBBS from Bangladesh Medical College in 2000 and her postgraduate training in cardiology from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, she changed her career track to build an herbal product manufacturing company in 2003. This inspired her to do an MBA at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh in 2010 to understand all aspects of operating a business. In 2016, she took up an administrative role at Evercare Hospital, where she helped set up the admissions counseling department in addition to managing her business. This led her to pursue a Master’s in Healthcare Leadership from Brown University in 2020. She worked as a national consultant for Aspire to Innovate (a2i) and UNDP to develop strategies from health data in 2020. Her varied knowledge and years of experience equip her with the skills to work in a cross sectoral industry. She is devoted to advocating for a better health system in Bangladesh that ensures healthcare for all, utilizing the country’s strengths in connectivity, infrastructural framework, and human capital.
Dr. Basher M. Atiquzzaman
Dr. Basher M Atiquzzaman, fondly known as “Dr Atiq” is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist practicing in Orlando, Florida, and Faculty of College of Medicine, UCF. He is an educator, researcher, creative writer, philanthropist and activist. He received his medical degree from Chittagong Medical College and has been in practice for more than 20 years.
Dr. Basher M. Atiquzzaman brings an exceptional level of expertise to the treatment of diseases and disorders that affect the stomach, colon, intestines, liver, pancreas, and esophagus. He also educates the next generation of doctors by training medical school students in the same treatments and techniques being utilized within his own practice.
Mr. Munir Merali
Mr. Munir Merali is a seasoned leader in international development, diplomacy, and sustainability, with nearly five decades of impactful contributions. As the Diplomatic Representative for the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) and Co-Founder of SAMENA Management Consultancies, he has led initiatives that uplift underserved communities and foster regional collaboration.
Munir holds degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences from a Canadian national based in Dubai, an MBA from the University of Toronto, and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University. He has also completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program and is pursuing sustainability studies at MIT. With a 25-year tenure at AKDN, Munir has spearheaded projects in health, education, and infrastructure, championing policy reforms and social entrepreneurship. Passionate about leveraging artificial intelligence and climate technology for global challenges, Mr. Munir envisions a sustainable future where innovation drives equitable progress for communities worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Shuvagata Choudhury
Prof. Dr. Shuvagata Choudhury is an accomplished Professor and Director of Laboratory Services with extensive experience in the hospital and healthcare industry. A graduate of Dhaka University in Medicine, with postgraduate training in medical education and laboratory sciences abroad, he specializes in medical research, chemical pathology, metabolic disorders, and disease prevention.
Dr. Choudhury has a long teaching career in Medical Biochemistry, mentoring graduate and postgraduate students, and supervising numerous research projects. He has contributed to over 70 scientific publications in medical journals and led several international health initiatives. A prolific writer, he has authored 50 health books and numerous articles for newspapers and magazines, promoting health awareness and education. Beyond academia, Dr. Choudhury is a cultural enthusiast, singer, dramatist, and organizer of socio-cultural events. He promotes health care and prevention, blending his expertise with a passion for community outreach.
Mr. Moynul Haque Siddiqui
Mr. Moynul Haque Siddiqui is the founder and director of Fiber@Home and leading the organization as Managing Director and Chairman since 2009. Also, he was the founder of BDCOM Online Ltd. (listed with DSE and CSE) and Norban Communications Ltd which are high-profile ICT and communications network companies of the country.
He has contributed a lot for the development of the world standard ICT industry in Bangladesh. Mr. Siddiqui graduated from Dhaka University in 1986 and evolved as a prominent entrepreneur in the Textile and ICT sector. He is a founder and Director of Asia Pacific General Insurance Company Limited, which is also a listed company. Mr. Siddiqui is also associated with other eight business houses as a chairman/Managing Director/Director. He widely traveled to many countries to attend commercial and business seminars & conferences and acquired vast knowledge in the field of commerce and business.
Mr. A S M Mahbubul Alam
Mr. A S M Mahbubul Alam is the Vice Chairperson of PSTC and former Secretary to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. During his long career in the civil service, Mr. Alam served as Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj. He had also been with the Bangladesh Parliament as Joint Secretary and different Projects’ Director and worked closely with UN agencies like UNFPA, UNDP, and other development organizations like, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, etc..
He served in the Ministry of Information also and his last working ministry was the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives before his retirement. An urban and local govt. specialist Mr. Mahbubul Alam has been also providing his expert support to UNDP as an advisor.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Zahid Hasan
M. Zahid Hasan is the Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics at Princeton University. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2002 and, since that time, has been a major researcher in the field of Topological Quantum Matter. He has written over 280 peer-reviewed journal articles and is the most cited experimenter in the field.
His funded research areas include the search and discovery of novel phases of matter, emergent new particles, novel quantum effects, exotic superconductivity, quantum magnetism, spin liquids, Weyl magnets and superconductors, chiral materials, topological insulators, Higgs phenomena, kagome magnets and superconductors, anyon superconductivity, fractionalization, and Kitaev materials, Ultrafast & Nanoscale quantum phenomena among others. He has worked at both Stanford’s SLAC National Accelerator and at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the 2020 Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award(Link is external) for groundbreaking discoveries in topological insulators, topological magnets, and Weyl conductors. He is the recipient ofthe American Competitiveness & Innovation Fellowship “for leadership in the field of physics” by the U.S. National Science Foundation and has been listed in the “World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds List” since 2014 onward. His research works have been featured in Physics Today, Physics World, Scientific American, Nature News, Science News, Discover magazine, New Scientist, and similar media multiple times over the last two decades. He has delivered many plenary, endowed, named, and honorific lectures around the world including the Bose-Einstein centenary lectures in quantum physics. He is an elected fellow to many professional societies including the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and is the principal investigator of the Laboratory for Topological Quantum Matter and Advanced Spectroscopy at Princeton University since 2008.
She has been instrumental in developing flagship products such as Uber Maps, Bing Maps, Microsoft’s Augmented Reality Platform, Windows Phone, Speech Recognition systems, Microsoft Premium Mobile Experience, and MSN. As the Tech Lead for Uber’s Maps Data Platform, Eng. Sarah spearheaded the creation and scaling of multiple platform generations, managing the end-to-end lifecycle of Uber Maps data, which underpins Uber’s global Rides and Eats services. She played a critical role in Uber’s expansion into South Korea, the fifth-largest taxi market globally, and led the engineering guidance council, Ark, driving Uber’s architectural evolution and engineering culture. With a passion for innovation and leadership, Eng. Sarah Ahmed continues to shape the future of technology through transformative projects and platforms.
